You knocked on my door,
not just the front door,
but the locked ones
deep inside me.
And one by one, they opened.

When your deep blue eyes met mine,
time stood still.
Lost souls intertwined
In love at first sight.

Eyes that could rival the stars,
shining light into my dark sky.
My world lost its weight,
I’d know you from a universe away.

Polaroids of us kissing in every city,
sleeping under the stars in every country,
swimming in all the seas,
together in our own little world.

It’s in the comfort of knowing,
you understand my thoughts
even when unspoken.
It’s calm summer afternoons,
hail on the roof.
It’s home.

You healed my inner child,
made her feel safe.
Safe enough to unmask
every hidden side of me.

You healed the woman in me,
The one afraid to just be.
You saw me raw, in all my colours.
You did not falter.

I had so much more to say,
But so little time.
So I’ll end on this note:
to love is to give someone
